Car troubles

Hey all,
  A mysterious gremlin reared its head today.  I go to start the car this
morning, and it simply would not start.  After 5mins or so, it finally
kicked over; then when I went through a puddle (We have had a lot of rain
here in the past 24hours) the car just died.  When I tried to restart it, it
took about 6 cranks, and the engine coughed/etc.  Then when Im on the
highway, it felt like the belts were still slipping, and the engine would
constantly cough and die.  It stalls at stoplights, etc; I have to keep my
foot on the gas or else it would stall everytime I come to a stop.  Again,
after arriving at my destination, it wouldn't start again, and again, it
would cough/sputter/etc.  Later this evening, it was extremely hard to start
again, but once it started, it seemed like normal...Only when I would be on
the highway in 5th and go to give it gas, it would cough and sputter (like
it is running out of gas) then catch on and go.  Up to this point, I think
it could either be bad gas, or just wet belts (although after 15mins of
driving at temp, I don't think that that would be an issue)...Help PLEASE !!
