In California, there is now way to remove the "Salvage" designation from the
vehicle once it's been designated as such. But, as long as the vehicle looks
like the repair work is done, AND it passes a headlight and brake
inspection, you can get the car back on thee road. If all of that was done
by the prior owner, the DMV won't make you do anything out of the normal to
transfer the title into your name and have the car registered. But, it will
always  be a "salvaged" vehicle.
