	I don't think that's quite that true.  If I could sink 3k into my
scirocco, I could almost garuntee that I could get it to smoke that laser
with the same amount of money into it.  
	The reason why hondas are so cheap to buy is because Honda Motor comp.
uses lower quality parts, for instance if put too much torque on most of
the nuts and bolts on them the snap like a twig.
	The other thing is, they aren't cheap to mod.  Most perf. exhaust systems
start at 300 bucks for a decent one.  And the looks part is variable, but
it's also not the best quality shit either.  
	Understandable it can be expensive to mod a vw, but you can find perf. at
a junkyard.  And I recall that someone at the cincy gtg did say, and I
quote "10 hp on a vw is like 20 hp on most other cars.
