Water Pump Removal was: overheating

I have found it helpful to remove the whole pump as a unit (opposed 
to just the outer half).

Cons:

- "It looks like all you need to do is remove those small bolts, why 
take the  back half off?"

- "All they sold me was the front half (impeller side) anyway". (See above)



Pros:

- There are just a few bolts that hold the whole unit on the block, 
once off you can deal with the two clam shell halves. (If you even 
need to)

- I usually deal with the pump as a whole unit, I have found some 
differences with different manufacturers so the two halves don't 
quite match up.

- Easier to reman the pump if it's on the bench vs up under the car.

I like to slap some anti-seize in there after chasing the threads. 
Seems the PO or (Prev Mech) always does a a fast & cheap job. Which I 
end up paying for later.
