Re: ABT Upper Stress bar & misc susp. Stuff.

I just recently acquired an ABT upper stress bar, and it seems my hood is
about .5 to 1.5 centimetres higher than it should be. Argh. The bar is TOO
high and the hood rests on it. Any Ideas.?

  - When I noticed my hood rested slightly on my bar, It was hitting on one
of the underhood cross supports (the lattice of curved metal with holes
under the hood skin). I took a round pipe and set it on the support where i
could see the contact points and popped it a few times with the hammer
creating a slight indentation. I cannot guarantee that you won't damage
your hood, and I am not telling you to do it, but rather just what I did.

I've got a problem /w the steering/handling on "rippled" roads though.
You know, the roads that have sunken indents where heavy trucks have
squished the pavement into ruts? When changing lanes (at any speed) my
scirocco intermittently madly resists turning, or lurches in the intended
direction like a Ninnyhammer. This sort of happens when cruising straight
at regular speeds, and steering lightly/changing lanes. I realize that this
would sort of happen with any car, but I've driven a few different cars down
the same strip of road and they don't do the funcky noodle all over the
place.

  - I had this same problem once. I started with the upper strut bearings,
and this took some of it out. Then I replaced my struts with some new ones,
and it took all of it out. If your strut is moving up and down some, I
would say this may be a problem. I have a pair of slightly used (about
5months) front Boge turbogas struts that I ran before I switched them out.
I switched them to another pair of Boge Turbogas because I have Rabbit front
struts which have an internal thread, and the Scirocco's use an external
threaded strut housing (sound right?), so my struts originally ended up
moving some like yours. If you are interested in the struts let me know.
