Mysterious yellow box

While checking on my clutch cable, I noticed a yellow box under my dash.
It's about 4"x3"x1" and refes to itself as a "regulator". It had many wires
connected to it, and had three adjustments on the outside of it. They were
labled "sensitivity adj." "center adjst." and I think "S.W. adj.". The
regulator is made by Dana. The box was tucked up under the dash just
outboard of the steering column, and I couldn't really see whre the wires
were going to (just disappeared behind the fuse panel). Does anyone know
what this thing might be? I just got this car and it has a lot of
aftermarket stuff on it, so I'm guessing this is some modification I am
unfamiliar with. There was a red wire with an inline fuse holder that had
no fuse in it, so whatever it is I'm guessing it isn't working. Car has no
power locks and came with no alarm remote. the box is plastic and very
lightweight, so I don't think it could be an amplifier. It has several
connections on it that seemed to be made using sotock 2-pin connections and
multi-pin connections, so maybe it is replacing something? The only thing
electrical that acts funny on the car is the non-functional rear wiper, but
that's hardly something that would have 15 or more wires involved in
controlling it.

Any guesses?

Sincerely;
Brian Haygood
