Jans site is a great FAQ area, we should all check it out if you haven't.
I would love it if people submitted off-list FAQ's, I can't write them
all. I've taken several good emails and put them in the FAQ section
however...this list itself, and it's archives, should serve as our
collective FAQ. Much of it is currently posted on scirocco.org, but
there are several problems there.

Not everything is online, and the reason is lack of disk space. The
machines that currently host scirocco.org are in Colorado and used to
be owned by PrivateI.com, now Forethought.net. While it was PrivateI,
Kevin Wenzel started the Scirocco list, and hosted both the website and
the mailing list off his machines. He pulled the plug on the mailing
list and we scrambled to find a new home for it...Chris Mende came to
our rescue and hosts the mailing list off his machines for free.
Scirocco.org the website got left behind at PrivateI, hosted for free
due to legacy good-will after forethought.net took over...let's just
say that our site gets brought up at their meetings as to why they
host our site. With the archives online, we take up 500mb+ and more
then 200,000 pages. That's a lot of good-will from forethought.net.
I've had them extend us more space once, and I'm hesitant to do it
again, which is why the entire archives are not online (if they're
not lost). This is also part of the reason why the archive search
mechanism doesn't work...we are not allowed easy access to the cgi-bin
area on scirocco.org...so I can't set up a nice glimpse database
with a cool search front end to access our fantastic collective FAQ.
To take our site elsewhere would cost at _least_ $50 a month, and
probably more if I can believe the statistics...800,000 hits a month
and probably a gig of space to be comfortable.

All is not lost however.

I have wanted to take more control of this situation for a long long
time and I have finally secured most of the necessary hardware to host
the website locally to me with plenty of disk space and full access.
We'll be able to do all kinds of cool things, it's in the works. :)
I need to buy more memory, an even LARGER harddrive (10+gig range),
and a Linksys cable switch/router/firewall...then we'll be cooking.

In the meantime, I would be very happy to accept any well worded
and correct FAQ from anyone, and I'll post it to scirocco.org in
the FAQ area.

As for the weekly question idea, I think it sounds great! If we
pull it off, I'd set up a special area in the FAQ section to highlight
the weekly or bi-weekly 'special' topic. Let's get it off the ground!
What should the first topic be? I did notice that a few of the items listed
below have already been covered in some areas...including scirocco.org.
I'm going to undertake a 2L swap tech procedure / FAQ, and Jim J. has
promised me a 16v conversion tech procedure / FAQ so we have a head
start on those. Remember, pictures really help! ;)

Thoughts anyone?
