Ooohh..now you open yourself to the very real
possibility of breaking a stud in the head...and I've
been through that; I did the proper fix which required
removal of the head, and it got worse from there.  Bad
news.  Do everything you can to avoid removing the
manifold.  Soak the bolts with PB Blaster, wire brush
them, if possible run a die up them to clean the
threads.  THEN try to remove them.  And you still
might twist one off, but without the downpipe in the
way, drilling out the stud and replacing would be a
lot easier.

Couldn't see where it'd hurt...SS all around would be
my preference.  BTW these are studs, keeping them
makes it easier to install, beyond that, I don't know
why there would be a difference.
