brings up a thought that i've been wanting to get into...

my '87 16v is just not "responsive" enough. when i slam on the the gas, i 
want that thing to go! maybe i'm also used to driving the car that it feels 
like i can run faster that the car drives! (great exaggeration here..).

what are the "standard" mods folks make to get more torque out of the 
engine?? and/or are gear ratio trial and error scenarios more common to get 
the kind of whiplash effect i want in the street environment without making 
major engine mods??
