Sorry, but it sounds more to me like bearings going out!  Hope not, but if
your cooling system is in good shape, oil pressure is acceptable (and
hopefully the oil is at the right level) and there are no other little
things to make it overheat (way advanced timing, clogged water jackets,
clogged inlet or outlet on head, plugged oil passages, etc.) then the only
other option would be friction!!  Like I said, I hope not, but defineately
something to take into consideration.
