RE: '75 Mk1 - What to look for

Issue #1 RUST (Gary covered that pretty well!)

Issue #2 Your patience, and your goals.
The '75 is a rare bird, indeed! Keep in mind that many *little* things
changed between '75 and '78 (if you consider '78-'81 the "normal" mk1s). If
you want the car to be original, you'll have a difficult time finding all
the little trim pieces, correct fenders, signal lenses, interior bits (in
the right color), etc. If you don't care too much about being original, then
you can use most anything out of any mk1, and a lot of stuff from rabbits.

Other things to note:

-Carburated 1.5 engine. You knew that, but remember you'll need a different
fuel tank if you swap in a fuel injected engine.

-4-speed tranny. 'Nuff said.

-I don't care what the brake lines look like...PLAN on replacing them! It
isn't worth the mess if they break.

-The brakes are different than the "good" 8v brakes you're used to. The cool
thing is that you can go get the brakes off any mk2 8v or later Rabbit and
bolt them in cheap.

I think Gary bay be the only list member with a '75...am I right? And AFAIK,
it doesn't run yet, right Gary? If I'm correct, that means the race is still
on for the only running/driving '75 in the club! That's gotta be worth
something. :)

Neal
'77 Scirocco (nope, don't run neither)
'88 Scirocco (Special "Beat To Hell By GA-DOT" edition)
'90 Corrado (parts)
