'75 Mk1 - What to look for

Hi all,

	I just finished checking scirocco.org (even used the newer, fandango search
option) and need some info from the Mk1 crowd.  There's a '75 listed in my
local paper that "runs but doesn't drive".  I told myself I wouldn't go look
at it, but the price just dropped after a few weeks of being listed and I
just can't resist.  Before I call, I need some guidance on what to look for.
I've always been a Mk2 16v kind of guy, so I didn't always pay attention to
posts on Mk1s and 8v'ers.  Anyway, this is what I need:

* Rust is an issue in the floor plan and A-pillars.  Are there other places
I should be looking at that aren't readily fixable?
* Just how anemic is the carbureted 1.5?
* I know the 1.7 block is stamped 1.6.  What's the 1.5 stamped?
* What tranny should be in a '75 and where is it stamped?
* In general, what are the problems that will be a telltale sign to run, not
walk, away from this thing.

Feel free to reply off line if you don't want to clog of the list with
rehashed info.  Thanks in advance.
