RE: 16V top end clattering - impending doom?



Yes, I just got done with the autox course, all in 1st and 2nd gear,
there was a LH hairpin right before the finish gate.  The OP buzzer
never sounded (it does work, used to come on with 10W30 dino oil). The
noise was overall clatter, like all the lifters were emptied of oil,
and persisted until I got on the road and took it easy for 5 mins.  Oil
is Mobil 1 10W30, which I know is a bit light for a high-mileage 16V
(why it's 10W30 is a different story).  Still...I want to add an oil
pressure gauge to the head!
