I had a '76 with carbs and it had way more torque than the FI engine that
was in the '80 that I have now. Of course the engine that was in my '80 was
very tired with over 200K miles. However, unless you are going to keep the
stock engine I don't think that you want to keep that fuel system. Some
people do use carbs on bigger engines, but not the same carb. I am not sure
how hard it would be to change over to FI, but I think that you would need a
lot of parts. HTH.
