On a side note...

What's the deal with expensive rubber hoses for these cars?  My 87 16v
popped the top radiator hose... I was quoted $120-225 depending on where I
called.

It's fricking rubber, people!

Anyone have the hose that goes from the crankcase breather to the airbox for
a 16V Scirocco? Mine is broken beyone repair and so is every one that I've
found in my junkyards. I can always buy a new one for $80, but I hate
spending that much for a piece of rubber.
