you SHOULD drive more carefully then ! :-))
4.78km/litre would be 21litres/100km, that sounds more like
you have a V8 and not a 8v ;-)

35miles/imp.gallon are IMHO about 8.1 l/100km or 12,37km/litre.

I hate that conversions  too :-)
