Great prices!!  Too good to be true?

First, Ron is not the most reputable source of motors in town.  He has been
known to sell incomplete and/or broken motors in the past.  I don't know if
he does it intentionally, but I do know that he doesn't do much to check
into the condition of the motors he sells.  Nobody does, really, but don't
assume his claims about the condition and history of this motor are true.

Second, there are only so many places out there that can turn out a really
competent 1.8t installation into an A1 car.  Denon is no longer one of
those places, if they ever were.  Their mechanic just quit, leaving them
with nobody qualified to do much other than strip cars for parts.  If Ron
tells you he can still do this job for that $$, assume he'll be farming it
out to someone else; you can also assume that the finished product will not
be to the same standards.  Please think twice about HPA or RPI, too.  One
of RPI's longtime employees had HPA do a 1.8t swap into his A2 GTI (what
does that tell you about RPI's ability to do the conversion?) and it was a
disaster.  The car stranded him a couple times, and exhibited all kinds of
weird symptoms that nobody could figure out for months.  There are a lot of
people out there with similar stories about HPA jobs - their swaps are
attractively priced, and they can get you in and out fast, but when the
shit hits the fan (as it does, frequently) you're out of luck.
