What sort of plug? Does it go inside the green plug?

What I currently have is a green plug (fitted into the housing about 3
inches from the right of the engine, facing the top of the car. Is this the
transmissions plug? Looks more like it's sat over the clutch), with a hex
pattern internally to allow you to remove it. However, there is no back to
the plug, just a hole that I can see through. Does this need replacing?

Yes... But it should also have a plug in it.
