I personally use a 4K from a MK1 GTI . With its 3.94 final drive and close 
ratio attached to my 2.0 16v  at the end of the quarter mile I am running 
6000 rpm in 4th.
My friend with a 2.0 16v golf and 3.67 final drive transmission is hitting 
hitting rev limiter in 3rd . My car beats his easily BTW even though he has 
much more HP . 

I have also towed my rabbit with the car and there is plenty of power and 
gearing.
