Didn't anyone ever tell you not to disconect the battery with the engine on?
The reason is, that when an alt. is disconected and has no load, the voltage
regulator (which reaction time is like 10ns) will not react quick enough and
it will fry! There is a product called "Zap Stop" which can be connected
between the pos and ground, which will absorb a surge and save your alt. I
am not sure if it works with Bosch. However, with no load, all you are using
power for is the bearings, fan, and belt. As I recall, a V-belt draws more
HP than anything else on the system, thats why race cars usually use
serpantine belts, along with most other cars now.
