'88 16v rocco,....Boiling over!

Ok,,...some of you are aware that the new motor is in and alive.  But I have
a problem.  The car registers "hot" on the temp gauge on the cluster and if
I crack the cap on the overflow reservoir then she boils over.  I figure
that I have air in the system, but I can't seem to get it out.  I have
checked the pressure relief button on the reservoir cap and it seems to be
"ok."  I started it today and ran it for about 15 minutes after filling the
reservoir back up from the last boil over.  She started to run hot according
to the gauge so I shut her down and just "barely" cracked the reservoir cap
to allow air to escape in case the pressure relief valve isn't working
correctly.  Maybe this will do it,....but I could use some suggestions.
