This sounds strange.  A piece of paper is about .004" thick.  My hair is about .003" in diameter.  If the wheels I'm driving on right now are within .250" I would be amazed.

.006" = 'six thousandths of one inch'
.250" = 'one quarter of one inch' or 'two hundred and fifty thousandths'
