Drivers/Passengers Seat

My black/grey checked driver's seat for my '86 16v is badly ripped top and
bottom.  Unfortunately, most of the similar ones I come across in boneyards
are similarly ripped.  Can I put in a passenger seat instead, as they're
usually in better shape, or will it not mount on the driver's side.
