Short answer - yes.

Last year I got a pair of Recaros from an 89 Jetta Gli.  The leg bolster on the
drivers seat was starting to show wear.  To avoid further destruction, I
switched the backs(to keep the handles for entrance to the rear accessible).  I
also swithced the power controls on the base from side to side.  You don't have
to switch the backs, but your rear entrance handle will be on the inside.
