fuel pump relay

Hi, I want to use standard 4 prong relays as fuel pump relays. Now that Im 
running 94 Motronic there is greater load on the relay and I think it's a 
little ridiculas to buy the factory ones for $50. Anyhow my question is: what 
does the 5th wire do (the small pin on the realy)? I know a lot of Audis use 
a 4 prong unit and i wondering if I can just get rid of it?
