$2k to spend....

Yeah!! I FINALLY got my tax return... and now have $2k to spend on a rocco for
autocrossing this spring.

I've found a 16V within a few hours from here, but according to the guy it's
got some damage to the pass side door handle from a theft attempt, the
dirver's seat bolster is gone (hmmm that's a rare occurance, right :oP ), it
marks it's territory with a nice oil leak, and it pops out of reverse. That's
the one thing that turns me off of it. The guy says it won't stay in reverse,
and that if held there, it grinds. My Saab experience tells me that means
rebuild time. Am I correct? (He also says it won't go into 1st without some
coaxing.) He wants $1500 for it. He also thinks it been in an accident, made
some comment about the way the bottom of the pass door lines up with the door
sill... hmmmmm

I had my heart set on a 16V, however there's an 86 8V also for sale locally,
and the guy claims it's in exc condition, and needs NOTHING. It's grey/grey,
with vinyl int, and needs no work. If this is true, I may end up going with
it, as he's asking $1750.

Any of the 16V guys want to talk me out of this, and any 8V guys want to goad
me on?

What hidden things should I look for when inspecting the cars?

And as a little ego boost to ya guys... I was also considering RX7s for
racing, but one of the main factors in my decision was that the RX7 list is
plagued by assholes... whilest this list seems to have a lower ratio :-)

Or at least the assholes here know what they are talking about! <grin>
