True but part of the fun is finding out for yourself. or not. :)

Venting the hood isn't always a good idea. Placement is everything as
long as it causes a low pressure area in which the air inside the engine
bay (behind the radiator) will be drawn out. Ive seen some gawdy cars
around town lately with hood scoops and scallops which do nothing in the
terms of performance and in ascetics, looks freakish. I trust that you
are already well versed on the vents and scoops arena. So I can just
shadup now.

Its more like 11.7-1... heh! Since I know he's always much to busy to
read down this far on most posts, ill chime in and give what info I know
about the motor. (Soon to be MY motor..)

1.8L RD block. I believe its a stock bore. The bottom end is balanced.
Stock 10.1 pistons. His performance gains are in his head and cam. Don't
get me wrong, the bottom end is BUILT!

The head is a P&P hyd head. Shaved. Neuspeed 272 cam with an adjustable
cam gear. He's also running a KS system. (Basically he's grafted in the
CIS-E.)

135hp to the wheels at the last dyno test (WAY overdue for a new dyno
run. I suspect he's putting close to 160hp to the ground as it sits now.)
a couple years ago.

He's got the Gillet exhaust system on the car. I hate it, its WAY too
quiet. With the compression he's got you can be inside the house and FEEL
the car idle outside in the garage. (100ft away.) The car idles at 1,000
rpms. Its just got a wicked exhaust pulse out the tailpipe.

You cant tell the car has the 272 cam because it idles SOO smooth. Credit
to a great balanced bottom end for those of you looking to use a fat cam
and still drive it everyday like Mike does.

Well, its an 8v. Lots of torque all over the place. I haven't driven it
since the quaife was installed. he says torque steer is prevalent. Its
definitely not a one hand on the wheel car anymore. (KEWL!)
Hmmm, lets see.. How do I describe the driving characteristics....
Well, all you do is keep shifting as fast as you can! Damn thing just
goes! Its the king of the freeway.

With what your building, 170hp isn't that hard to gain. Its only 30 hp
more than the stock 2.0L 16v's figures. 30hp is fairly simple to gain
without costing a fortune and still being a street drivable powerplant.
The 2.0L is inherently a mid range torque beast. Its just a matter of
dialing it all in.

>This sounds like the answers to all of my needs. Again, though. Can we

For all I know Autotech might just have the best thing going in the VW
performance world. I just simply cant get over their odd desire to treat
people like crap! When I had to replace my head recently I decided to
trek up there (70 miles north of me) to pick up a set of RD valve
springs. They quoted me $59 over the phone. Great, ill be there by 4:30
and leave my name. So I drive up there, walk in and tell them who I am
and what I want. He looks at me like im an idiot. Sitting on the desk is
a set of springs. I said I believe those are for me. There was a ticket
sitting under it with my name on it. (No problem there.) He picks it up
and says it will be $69. 70-something with tax. WTF! Then I asked him
what the spring rate were at stock height and compressed. Looks at me
like ive just gone way over the line here with my questions, total
attitude, huffs off and comes back 10 minutes later with the info.
Im just sick of these pricks. its too bad they are to only source for
SOME parts. (I could of gotten them elsewhere but I needed them that day,
whad-are-ya-gonna-do. I just try and not buy anything from them if I can
help it. Hopefully that was my last visit.

me best advice is to call Potterman about the cams. if anybody know's 16V
cams, HE does. -crack-! yaa-mule!
HTH!!
