RE: Euro Curve distributor with hybrid motor!?!?

AFAIK, the euro curve distributor will work well as long as your
compression ratio is not too high. The nifty thing with the euro curve
is that it decreases advance at high RPM, thus allowing for a lot of
initial advance, for boosted low end, without knocking at high RPM. The
greater the CR, the more limited are you as to how much initial advance
you can set.

Knock sensor ignition is a little different. I'm not too sure about this
stuff, so please correct me if I'm wrong. Knock sensing retards timing
when the engine knocks. So that way, when your engine knocks (and it
will, with 10:1 CR) it won't knock for long, and engine life will be
extended. However, retarding the timing takes away precious power. My GF
has an 86 jetta GLI with a 10:1 CR and knocksensing ignition. She is a
poor student, so always fills it with 87 (yuck, but she's paying and
driving). One time she was up late studying and asked me to fill it up
for her. I put in 92. Man that thing took off. Her tired commuter car
started to feel like a racer. With the 87 octane in there, I guess her
KS was working overtime to retard the timing, but as soon as the 92 was
in there it didn't have to retard the timing anymore and so the car
really woke up.

The moral? KS is great for keeping your car working at the top "safe"
performance, but does so by taking away power until you are out of the
"danger zone."

that's all AFAIK so take it with a grain of salt.
