RE: euro light curiosity

You will find, in fact, that very few euro cars have headlight levelling, at
least not the average, run of the mill models. I've never seen them on a
Scirocco, or in fact any VW older than a year or two. I suppose most MBs,
BMWs and high-end VW/audis have them these days but your average
Ford/Vauxhall(GM)/etc... pretty rare.

Alan,
My Mercedes has a similar system, although vacuum-activated.
Actually,
most (if not all) H4-equipped cars in Europe have a similar system.
You know how the H4s have a distinct cut-off? Well, when the rear
of your
car is loaded, the front will be aimed higher, thus blinding everyone in
front of you. Through whatever system (be it electric or vacuum), the
headlights can be adjusted to slant down further so that you preserve
lighting, but don't blind oncoming traffic. It's a great thing.
Of course, my Mercedes, with 90/100 H4s, is set up so that it's on
the
lowest setting during normal driving.... and if someone pisses me off, I
just raise it with the dial on the dash--- and VOILA! Payback with 180
watts of low beams. :) And if they gesture at me, well, then the
high-beams flash on as if to innocently say "Hey! These are my low beams."
:) Muhahah!!
