Ruh-Roh!  This is where they ALL go...

I've never had it fixed myself.  A friend of mine is takin'
his '81 in tomorrow to have it fixed.  Luckily his rust is
pretty minor.  Check to see how soft the metal is several
inches in each direction.  Any softness whatsoever is cause
for concern.

I talked to a guy at Greg's VW cruise-in this spring - had
his '78 cut and welded.  Lasted about 3 years, then it
started coming back.  Of course, that car was driven in the
winter after it had been fixed too.

Any suggestions/comments?

Ummm....  buy this rust free '81 S that's still in my
driveway?  Actually, a guy has a deposit on it, I hold it
'til the end of the month.  After that...  fair game.
