You lost fifth gear all of a sudden? Could you go back into fifth, only 
it would pop out after awhile? If so, it has happened to me twice. In 
both instances it meant a new transmission. It is usually preceeded by a 
whirring noise, as I have said before, it sounds like you suddenly have 
a jet engine. It sounds kind of neat, but it is bad news for the pocket 
book. Or it may be I have been mislead all these years by crooked 
mechanics, fixing more things than is absolutely necessary.
