RE: sooty plugs. prognosis?



I'd agree with the rich mixture as the culprit.  The correct mixture will
generally result in plugs that are light tan in color.  Incidentally, mine
are black right now too, and I'm guessing it's due to a rich mixture, but
the PO didn't have a clue what he was doing and I need to fix all kinds of
other things first.

I would just clean them up a bit with a small wire brush and put them back
in.  It goes without saying that you will want to correct the mixture
problem that put them in that condition.  If you have a Dremel (or something
similar - my Black & Decker Wizard does the same thing for half the price),
get a wire brush for it.  It's great for spark plugs, although I don't know
how it would fare with those funky triple-electrode Bosch plugs.
