FWIW, I gare-ann-tea that the SLC emblem was added by some prior owner.
The only car I've ever seen with this is the Corrado SLC.

At least you have the GLi version of the Jetta, which came with the big
valve JH 1.8 instead of the less desirable 1.7 small valve that came on
regular Jettas from the same year . . .

A1 Jettas are coveted by more than a few . .
