My '81 came with semi BBS looking mesh type rims. Since they were gold
and chipping to boot I got around to painting the inner portion black,
leaving the outer rim portion the original silver aluminum finish.

I used a spray on product call Plastic-Coat; the stuff you dip pliers in
to create an insulated handle.

It worked well but is a matte finish. That's OK with me but others may
want a shiny surface. Since this stuff proved so durable I thought it
might make a good undercoating for some top layers of say rustoleum
Bar-B-Q paint or something. Think flexible undercoating to avoid
chipping.

My car's not black but if done with an eye to 'Less is More' and
avoiding the tack on more stuff syndrome, then IMHO black on black will
go over well.
