Re: Suspension Opinions

Hmm well the way to check the front struts is to bounce the car. If it keeps
going up and down more than just... (push down on the car) up... settle, then
it's time for new strut inserts. Unless your springs are broken, you're fun.
The OEM Boges are like $30 each, and you can also get Gabriels or Monroes, both
of which have a lifetime warranty and are about the same price. FWIW, I had a
Gabriel break once. It was replaced under warranty, but it still pissed me off.
Probably just a fluke. I have no input about whether Gabriels or Monroes are
better or worse than the stock Boges. I have Monroes on the rear of my
Scirocco, don't have any complaints about them. I used to have Gabriels on my
Quantum, didn't mind them at all either. But my Bilsteins... a whole different
world : )
You could also get Boge TurboGas if you felt like it... they're like $60 each.
Stiffer, or so I hear. Anyone want ONE Boge TurboGas rear shock, used? Still
works fine! Free! Come get it (southern NH). (laugh) probably nobody will ever
want it.. whatever.
Yes we have struts in the front, shocks in the rear. It's just a little odd
because our shocks are inside our springs on the rear, and the spring and shock
come out as one unit, but whatever. You need a spring compressor to do the
front strut inserts, don't need any such thing in the rear.
    Good luck!
