Hose and vacuum sytem question.........................

I dont know about the 8v cars but on my 16v scirocco under the batery =
there is a big hose and like 6 inches away is what loks like the =
otherside.. but there is no hose connecting the two.. should there be??? =
i noticed this at the rip off place where my car is being hacked a part =
viciously :)

Also does anyone else have problems with the vacuum system? I seem to =
have like 2-3 off and one looks like its plugged but i cant for the life =
of me figure where any of em go..
