Good point about the adjustment, keep in mind- When things get out of joint so
to speak, it's usually in pairs. That is to say, if 1st is a problem often so
will 3rd. The same goes for 2nd & 4th. The symptom of being too far forward or
back to be engaging the gears properly, don't 'cha know.

Given that the thing is high mileage & you've been running it a bit grindingly
lately, a rebuild might be in order. Consider checking the grommet type
shifter thingies that go bad in the linkage, and verify the shifter mech.
placement. These two things might help to get you back in gear. ( har, har. )
