Hey guys,

I was recently driving in the rain, with no windsheild wipers (Don't ask) and
I noticed my Temp gauge rising quickly, and I get freaked out so I throw the
car in my friend's garage. I tried to figure it out, and after digging under
the battery I pull out the wires that run to the fan and see that one of them
was separated and covered in green
goo. I replaced the wires, and the fan still doesn't go on automatically...
But I know the fan's not busted because when I hook it straight to the
battery, it runs. My quick solution, I installed a switch under my defrost
switch, and tapped it to the battery and the fan, so I can control the fan
this way. But I don't want to keep it like this forever. Does anyone know
something that I didn't try? How much does a new set of wires cost? Any
suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks

Paul,

Did you consider that there is also a thermo switch in the mix? It may have
been damaged by what ever happened w/ the green goo. Perhaps a short melted
it's inards.

"I've been slimed!"

They are not too hard to swap out- some folks mentioned it can be done, if
your hands are fast, w/ minimal coolant loss.

I'm away from my Bentley etc at the moment but I'd think you could test the
switch with a VOM (meter); open when cold, closed when hot.

PS- Don't forget, when driving in the rain without wipers that tobacco helps
to sleat the rain off the windsheild. Just bust open a bunch of cigerettes
along the top and as it drips down it will help improve your vision.
