I HATE my wood grain!

I replaced the cluster in Kristen's '78 Scirocco with a black "S" style
cluster. You could sand off the wood grain, and then polish it to a
smooth finish. The result would again be black. Early MK1s in the U.S.
had silver "brushed aluminum like" clusters - none of that wood grain
crap.

Either way, you must remove the cluster.

Wassup!

Anyone else HATE the wood grain panelling around the console and above 
the glove box? It may have been hip in 1980, but I wanna replace it with 
a solid colour instead, or maybe something like brushed aluminum... 

My interior has two different themes! The rear is futuristic: there's a 
huge sub box with a custom metallic-painted rockford fosgate... But the 
ugly yellow wood in the front yells out "I live with my cousin Zeke and 
we eat roadkill on the farm" 

How hard is this stuff to take off? I'll have to take out all the 
guages, right? There must be a better way? And if I get it off, can I 
just paint over it with some metallic paint? 

I know I'm not the only one!
