    Sounds like a linkage adjustment problem, worn linkage bushings or a
combination of the two. The bushing kits are avail. from Mike at Virtual
World parts or Mark at Adirondack Parts Brokers. I paid around $10 for my
last set. The  shifter adjustment can be accessed under the shift boot with
a 10mm socket. I'd check the condition of the bushings first, the big clear
ones seem to wear quickly.
