I know just how it is! :) I'll give you the 'correct' procedure as I gather
it after reading and hearing many conflicting things.
When you first start the motor, get it to catch as soon as you can and
hold it between 1500-2500 rpm for like 5 minutes. Set the timing and stuff.
After 10 more minutes of breaking-in the motor between 2000-3000 rpm
varying it all the time you should change the oil. all those masty metal
particles and assembly lube should come outta there. Take it real easy on
the motor except for 7-10 full-throttle runs from like 40-60mph(not
positive) keeping it in one gear, third for our cars. Dont rev it too high,
just keep it in the normal range (2.5-5.5k or so). This is supposed to help
seat the rings. Change the oil 500 miles later and then you're supposed to
keep being easy on it still until the next oil change at 2500 when its
considered 'broken-in' then drive like a bat outta hell! :) Of course this
is just in my opinion, and almost exactly what I remember doing on my car,
but if any literature you got (like piston ring instructions, or Bently)
tell you different-- DO IT!
good luck! My engine is still running great after about 5k miles, so I
think this'll work!

Merry Christmas all!!!!!!
