Home porting is not really that hard. There are a few tricks 
which anyone with a high speed grinder and bits can perform. You won't 
put Techtonics or th like under, but you can come up with what would be 
considered a Stage 1 or even 2 head.

First, matchport as you said, then remove casting flaws from the 
wall of the port. Don't touch the bottom of the port, it's a low 
flow area, best left alone. The last 30% of the port will give 
you the most gain. Match the valve seats to the port, there's 
almost always a ridge there. it really cuts flow in this 
criticak area. You don't want the intake port too smooth, it's 
just as bad as being to rough. On the 16V head, the bridge 
between the two valves can be knife edged also.

Oh yeah, home extrude hone process. Sandblaster with different 
grades of abrasive works great.
