I am somewhat green with envy . . .
However, I just bought a 1982 Scirocco (silver) 1.7 5spd :)
I plan to upgrade it to Euro spec . . .

I assume this means you're in the U.S.
I am in Washington DC - where are you?

If it's a euro GTi it should have 110 hp! nice place to start. It should
have standard GTi vented discs up front, full sway bars, etc.

How much power do you want? For my money, going to a larger 8V motor is
the best bet. 16V motors are expensive to maintain and would require
extensive electrcal mods (apologies to the 16V fanatics!)

Not much implication in going to a larger motor - big implications in
going 16V, Turbo, G60, VR6, etc!

Do I need new wiring, and other

Oh yeah, get a 5 Speed too (you'll have to decide now, close ratio or
wide ratio)
