You are correct sir!

Well, you could probably do it that way but for what it takes to
completely remove the axles, you might as well remove them completely
from the car.
On your 16V, you will need to remove the lower stress bar, first. (Or if
you have an 8V with the aftermarket stressbar.)
Mike is sitting here with me. Were camping out for tomorrows race at the
stadium..... pass the marshmallows.... and another beer.... <BURP>!
We both agree that on your 16V you will absolutely need to remove both
axles because the drivers side is too short to get any access and the
passengers side has the heat shield (that protests the CV boot from the
exhaust pipe.). So, for all your anguish, they gotta come out. AND, while
the axles are out, what a fantastic opportunity to repack at least the
inner CV's! :-D
Have fun with the clips on the axle flanges. (well, the clip is actually
on the diff flange but you will know what I mean.) Get yourself a good
set of snap ring pliers, preferably a 90 degree set. They seem to work
the best IMHO. Mike don't have a IMHO on that issue! He don't like doing
the job period. I'll do it for a measlily $50. Because your my pal.
Velocity charges $225 installed. Pal, buddy, chum. :)

OK, too much beer for us and we got to get up early...... where's the
hookers, they should of been here hours ago!!
<Eying Mike> Hey Mike...... You've got some ... uh, sexy eyes there...
and that mouth... that's a fine looking mouth you got there....

Ok, this is probably good proof that one should'nt drink and type! SEE!!
