The gauge gets it power from the current movement through it.  If no 
current flows, no power is consumed.  And when it is consuming power, 
it is indeed minimal.   No need to concern yourself with the gauge's 
power consumption.

Can you elaborate on this?  I never heard of this before.  Thanks.
