I've installed umpteen million clutches in 020 VWs. On rare occasion I'd 
use a centering tool if it was available. The design of the clutch makes 
it much less necesary than most clutches. Just make sure you torque down 
the pressure plate bolts evenly. Get the disc as centered as you can, the 
tranny will pop on and the first time you press the pedal it will center 
on its own if slightly off.
