To remove the center console completely, which may or may not be necessary
but probably will make life easier, you also have to pop out the actual
switch body for the blower fan. Stick a screwdriver in that little slot,
then pry it out. Then disconnect the harness from the back.

You'll also have to take out the screw attaching the passenger side tray to
the center console.

This part can be tricky. To completely remove both halves of the console,
you'll also have to disconnect the oil pressure/volt/whatever guage from
the back (if you have one). This can be done by reaching down the hole
where the HVAC controls used to be. Then there's the ashtray light...I
broke this thing the first time I took the console out and haven't replaced
it, so I'm not sure how to disconnect it. Things go easier if you remove
the top half of the console before the bottom - first move the whole
assembly forward a few inches, then manoeuver the top half up and out.

The first time you do this it will be a pain in the ass. I guarantee that
when you go to put everything back together you'll forget to connect
something, or else the harness for the HVAC lights will fall back down
inside the console and you'll have to pull it apart again to get it...:)

hopefully this helps....just remember to take your time and pay attention
to which wires go where!
