Re: NOLOGY DYNO TEST!

Hi all it's Potterman here finally :-) responding to this subject.
The purpose of this test was not to bag on NOLOGY at all just do a
quick test to find out what up!

For starters I feel that the test conditions were far from perfect(ie
Heat, Humidity, & time restraints - It was my wedding anniversary
that day:-) so FIO.)
Secondly my car & Shawn's car are tuned for stock ignition systems
(co mixture, ignition timing) which are quite critical for max
performance. Nology warns in there instructions that retarding the
timing & CO mixture changes MAY be necessary to get the most out of
the wires, which neither of us did for the dyno runs (back to time
restraints). Possibly they state this because it does make a
difference, My 16v runs good at 10-11 deg BTDC which may be way to
much timing for such a big spark & with not enough fuel (my CO is set
stock) & in turn would have more of a tendency to ping/detonate ,
which would cause the knock sensor to retard the timing & in turn
LOSE power. Now Shawn's car has no knock sensor YET:-) so in theory
it would/should be more detrimental with no control over ignition
timing even though it's only 9.2-1 comp any car can ping or detonate
with incorrect timing. BTW Shawn's car is timed at 15 deg BTDC, a
little much but a short curve distributor helps out on the total.

Now with all this in mind did we lose power or did we just not test
the product correctly. I would like to (one day with an endless
wallet) do a test the scientific way by playing around with all
factors (heat, humidity, cold, CO, timing) all day or more to really
see what up!

Possibly even get 2 or more cars with the same motors/mods since some
motors from the factory produce more HP than the very next one or the
1000 one after that. One good example of that is a pair of A2 Jetta
1.8 16v's, one 87 one 88 all with same mods (euro intake cam, euro
downpipe, K&N, Gillett exhaust, advanced timing ). The 87 would
consistently pull 10-12 HP more than the 88 on the dyno. Very strange
but sometimes ya just end up with a good motor to start with.

Hopefully all of us are not going to take this test as gospel & not
base your decisions on 1 test when ALL factors were not in place
correctly. I still feel the wire's do work, & have yet to take them
off for some plain jane wires. Maybe Nology should state more
profoundly that adjustments are necessary & they in a sense are NOT
a "bolt on" item.
