Sounds like one of two things - one, you got the wrong seals.  Unlikely,
IMHO.  Two, the old seals often get hardened over time, and look a bit
different than the new ones.  Cut off the old black thing - there is a
groove on the injector, near the nuts that the new seal fits into.  Put
some gas on the new seal, slide it up the injector until it pops into the
groove, press back into the head.  My old dry hard seals often look
different than the new ones, which are roughly the size of a slightly worn
(?) lifesaver - they stretch out a bit to fit over the injector.  Maybe go
to the parts place and ask to see seals for other configurations - I don't
know how many there are - all I can really suggest is that they look like
Lifesavers!   AFAIK, the seals are all the same, from 75-83 ish - the air
shrouded seals might be different.  Best of luck!
