Dude, you were exactly right on. My brake lights were out, and i got rear
ended  after i wrote that message. It wasn't bad (not a scratch on my
bumper, score Two for the U.S. bumpers!) and the woman (of course) had a
bent licence plate and bumper a little mess. I told her it didn't matter to
me, and we drove off w/o insurance involvement. Anyways, I got home and took
my car to pacific Auto Electric that day and told them to fix it. 118 bucks
later they say it was the connector at the fuse box. 
I swear i've been under there a hundred times, but there's too many
goddamned wires. 
Thanks for the help though. Next time it happens I know what to do.
